Woodyard Appliances, located at 44 King St. W., Bowmanville, opened its doors in 1948. Jim and Shirley Colliss purchased Woodyard Appliances in 1958, at which time Jim branched into electrical contracting. George Moore began his electrical apprenticeship with Colliss Electric in October  1966.  Several years later George expanded on his electrical knowledge by continuing his apprentice at a larger company in Oshawa, returning to Colliss Electric, which had by then re-located to 12 Silver St., in 1972. George and Kay Moore purchased Colliss Electric in 1974 and changed the name to “George Moore Electric (Bowmanville) Limited” in 1977. Moore Electric has continued operating at 9 Church St. for the past 20 years.

Remaining a relatively small, personal operating business Moore Electric retained four or five qualified employees.  Experienced in all aspects of the electrical trade Moore Electric serviced residences, industries, farms, and commercial properties on a 24 hour call basis.

Originally the business work area extended to Oshawa and surrounding area but due to the positive growth of the Municipality of Clarington the majority of the business was conducted within its boundaries.

As Bowmanville natives, George and Kay cared about the community and tried to maintain a good reputation by satisfied customers. George and Kay always contributed their help to the community in many various charities and clubs.

AboutUs

Rob Brandt started his apprenticeship back in the early eighties with George Moore Electic, Rob also left Moore Electric to further his Electrical knowledge and experience working at such places as AG Simpson in Oshawa, St. Mary’s Cement in Bowmanville and GM Oshawa. During all these years from time to time Rob would return to help George when he needed an extra hand or George would call Rob to say he was going on a vacation and if the guys who worked for him needed any help would he be able to cover for George. Rob always had the utmost respect for George and Kay and would never turn George down.

In 2004 Rob bought the company from George and Kay, Rob continued to run the company trying to keep the good name intact that George and Kay had created, while growing the company. At the same time in 2004 Rob’s son Josh started an Electrical Apprenticeship with his dad at George Moore Electric, throughout Josh’s apprenticeship Rob had several different General Managers running the day to day operations, the last being Rob’s good friend Brian Stewart who was more or less doing Rob a favour as his home and family were in Magnetewan, Brian was anxious and tired of being away from home decided that he wanted to move back, at this time Josh was finished his apprenticeship and stepped forward to Rob asking if he could be considered for the position.
